The hardware
I find it hard to believe because im such a geek but most people have no idea whats inside their computers. Again hard for me to believe but its true. So, a computer is a case, tin or aluminum, which holds a PSU, a hard drive, a motherboard, a CPU, RAM and a few cooling fans. At the very least, there could be more stuffed in there but thats what youll need to build a basic computer.
A PSU or power supply unit is just what it claims to be , nothing but a power supply to run the computer, it has wiring coming from it to run everything else in the case.
The hard drive is the depository of knowledge, it holds all the info inside to run your computer and all of the files and programs you need to make your computer do what it does. ** having your hard drive crash is a major loss to most people so before it happens to you and you lose all your music videos and pictures, please back up your hard drive onto another hard drive or disk.
The motherboard, the connector, the board houses the CPU and the RAM and ties the entire computer together, think of the motherboard as a city map with the CPU and RAM at the center of that map, with hundreds streets and paths making their way to and from the different parts of the computer.
The CPU, or central processor unit, sometimes refered to as the brain, carries out the calculating and processing, your cpu does all the work and the speed of your CPU determines to a degree how fast your system will be.
The RAM random access memory, another determining factor for speed in your system, RAM is kind of hard to explain as its actually changed a lot in the past few years but essentially, it takes information from the hard drive and holds it in limbo until the CPU asks for it. So if you have more RAM your CPU can work faster as it doesnt have to stop and go back to the hard drive as often. The RAM acts as a bridge between the CPU and the hard drive.
Now whats left over is a jumbled mess of fans and wires which try to keep the entire mess cool and running properly,. Heat is a major enemy to a computer system, and heat dissapation is a factor in just how fast your computer runs. Again with the speed right, well the fact is all the computer parts inside the case are set up to go fast, speed is a factor for everything a computer does and every engineer who works on any part for a computer constantly thinks of how fast or slow it will be.
